204 East Okanogan tag question

Ok, I want to start this off with. I got a doe tag for the 204, and the intent was to hunt with my buddy. But plans changed and life has gotten in the way for him. So this season I am solo. Being a new hunter that hasn’t gotten a deer yet, and doesn’t know the 204. Combined with the fires, should I just refund my tag? Or would it still be worth going out there without being able to scout? Since the fires were going for so long?

Bring a rubber tired cart of some kind.  Lots of logging roads in 204.  Wheel them out whole.  Bring onx on your phone and pack out is no problem.

Unless he drew a "second deer" permit and bought a second tag for the permit, he only has one tag and can only kill one deer?

Absolutely go! There was TONS of info given to you and your buddy for this hunt. Take that info and head on over. The weather is generally pretty good, there are LOTS of does in the unit and it really is your best opportunity to fill your first deer tag. There is lots of NF that did not burn and it certainly holds does.

ALSO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TAG BEFORE TRYING TO DOUBLE UP

I'm thinking this is a general season youth permit and not a second deer tag. Spend all the time out there you can, be sure of the unit boundaries and have a bunch of fun harvesting your first deer.

Yep! Sorry I got sick with a cold. Just getting back to the boards. No one can go with me, so I am debating getting my points back. Or I just go and try my best, I am worried I will fail to fill the tag and have waisted it. But only one way to find out.

Go hunt and be safe. Enjoy time afield. Hunting solo can be great as you hunt at your pace and how you want. You learn a lot. And it will be a memorable experience. No matter what it won't be a waste and would love to see you have a good chance at harvesting a deer. Deer or no deer would like to hear the stories. Good luck.

If you end up finding a partner to go that is great too and hopefully can teach you a bunch.

Lots of area that is open to fill this tag, i could of filled it with out trying 3x times thus weekend. The fire burned to 200yds of my place

We were just up to our cabin yesterday. Any logging road within 15 miles of Bonaparte is closed. Some will never open again. There are signs up on most roads.

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited with the Tonasket Ranger District of the Colville National Forest. This order supersedes the previously signed Spur Mountain Fire Order # 06-21-09-21-17 signed on September 17, 2021. This order is effective October 01, 2021, through December 31, 2021, unless rescinded sooner.
PROHIBITIONS:
1. Entering into or being upon National Forest System lands, as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261. 53(e)].
2. Being on a National Forest System Trail as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.55(a)].
3. Being on a National Forest System Road as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.54(e)].
CLOSURE AREA DESCRIPTION:
The closure area begins at the junction of NFS Road 320000 and the Forest Boundary in T38N R30E Section 03. Follow the Forest 3300000 road west to T38N, R29E Sec 3 and continue along the Forest boundary to the 3230 road, south along the 3230 (Mill Creek) to the junction of the 3230/3235 in Section 29. Follow the 3230 road south and east to the forest boundary in T38N R31E S31. Follow the Forest boundary north back to the beginning point.
No State DNR or Private lands are closed under this order.
Exclusions include: Lost lake 050 road to the forest boundary in T39N R30E Section 28 and Lost Lake Campground, Camp Tokiwanee and Camp Ortoha.

Thank you for this, I am sad to see this much closure. Mainly for the people affected in those areas and their homes . I am glad your cabin is ok, and luckily the area I have been scouting out isn’t listed in those numbers there. So I may be ok. Be safe out there!
