IMHO, doesn't matter what caliber you go with, if you can't achieve "bullet placement" what good is it!

If you have a caliber that can't do 700yds, get closer to your target! :chuckle:  After all its called "Hunting"!
The only good tree, is a stump!

I think I'd go with .300 Win mag.   That way you could kill stuff.  But then, you would not be able to dazzle your friends with terms like Lapua and Nosler and Creedmoor.

What have you killed so far this year btw Igor?

Well, modern rifle season opens on the 16th, and my Ruger Ultralight in .270 Winchester is ready to go.  Ask me again in a couple of weeks.

Nice. I’m two bears down so far with my 7mm. One at 688 yards 😂. Killin stuff

Good work.  Hope the rest of the season goes as well for you..............
Those bears would be deader if you were shooting a .300 Win Mag............just kidding.

I will stay with a standard caliber so components aren't as hard to come by.  I reload so I am pretty sure whatever caliber I pick I should be able to tune up a good load.

I built a fast twist 300wm to shoot monos or the heavies

Went 1/8 twist and shooting cutting edge bullets but could shoot the long bois if I wanted to.

Right now it’s loving h1000 and I went with a 24” barrel. I know I could have gone longer but I’m still hitting steel at 800.
I did the same but went 28”

I need to pull the trigger and try to find the action or get it ordered as well as the stock.  Those will probably be the longest wait.

Usually longer waits, unless you can find one in stock somewhere, but BAT and Defiance would be my top two picks.

I'm not sure about using H1000 with this cartridge, but I have been super impressed with the 7mm-08 cartridge. We have yet to fill an elk tag with it, but it sure does work well on deer. I really appreciate the ease of finding reloading components, its light recoil, and great accuracy. If I ever I need to retire my .270 win, I'd be buying a 7mm-08 for myself.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!
