Rumor has it that the big ol rubber blunt tip will slip between the ribs. So catch and release is not a good idea either.

What kind of shape was the deer in? Was he getting around ok, acting normal, or sick looking/acting?
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

DEER ON!   be a heck of a battle on a sturgeon rod

There was an internet cartoon some years ago where a guy explains that his wife had him switch from hunting, as it was inhumane, to fishing instead.  He said he didn't really get that, but went along and switched from expensive hunting gear to expensive fishing gear and so on.  In the end, he reels in a monster buck and then clubs the crap out of it.  He said his wife was much happier that he had changed to fishing......
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

He seemed fine.
His wound was infected for sure
Most of the backstraps were not saveable
