Hornady sst
« on: October 09, 2021, 08:10:04 AM »
shooting 162gr sst out of my 7mm,at the range yesterday. I could not hit the 326 yrd gong, but could hit the 235 yrd gong. Havent shot for a length of time, so thought it was me..So id brought my hand loads ,not to test though as they r good to go.What the heck ill shoot 2 and if i cant hit the 326 yd gong,{{its the scope.}}Id already checked the tourge screws in ibs before i left. Bingo my hand loads hit every time 2x each..SO has anyone here had accuracy problems with Hornady sst rounds..My handloads push out interlock bullets.

I have used sst in 7 mag ,but I've only pushed it out to 250.
I'm not really a long range shooter.
But you know how the saying goes,
If your off a butt hair at 100 ,it can be mile off the farther you push it out.

I shoot the superformance 154sst out of my Montana rifle co 7mm mag. With great success. Started with different ammo and I did try the 162sst also and the 154s grouped much tighter for me. Comfortable out to 700 yards with it. Longest shots on animals was a Montana mule deer at 450 yards, frontal shot dropped him in his tracks. And my spring bear at 500+, she went a little ways but didn’t take long to die

My browning hell’s canyon shot performance sst great. But after seeing how they like to turn into a lot of little pieces when they hit an animal I stopped shooting them.

Not in 7mm but I shoot the 338. I've found that the weight difference has been as much as 5 grains difference. Could be effecting your accuracy. I will say that they have been one of the deadliest bullets I've shot elk with.

Was shooting Hornady 123SST in  6.5 Grendel....this week end. Could not get them to group at all.  5 plus inch at 100yds. very frustrating, re-torqued all the bolts, bore sighted again .... no change. ... changed to Federal 90gr and shot a 0.9 inch 5 shot group. Probably won't be buying any more Hornady SST.........

Some guns don't like certain bullets. Some do.
