Recurve blacktail
« on: October 22, 2021, 07:23:09 PM »
This is my best deer ever.

I was still hunting a ravine this afternoon when I heard and then saw a doe moving through underbrush pretty close to me. The wind was good and it was raining so she did not detect me. Her tail was straight back and I was suspicious she was being pursued, so I nocked an arrow and crouched behind some big sword ferns. Just a few seconds later this buck crested the edge of the ravine and started following. I let him get about 15 yards quartering away and shot him in the chest and watched him fall. Pretty amazing. 55# Wes Wallace recurve.

Is that a lowland deer? It's a beast. Obviously rutting hard?

Yeah lowland 600 series gmu. I’d guess I was 100’ above sea level.

Rutting real hard. Intense tarsal glands and a burly neck.

Fantastic Blackie! Congrats.

Saw a really nice 2x3 this evening after shooting hours. Was really tearing up a tree. Didnt care that we were sitting in a running vehicle watching him from 30 yards away!
