Winter tires for commuter car..recommendations please
« on: November 03, 2021, 07:47:07 PM »
Looking for advice for winter tires for a commuter car....its a Prius...(I know, I know...lol)  Live in N. Central WA so we see quite a bit of snow and ice. We have had studs for about 8 years, and they have worked decently, just looking for recommendations from anyone who has info on snow tires for a car to share. Thank you in advance.

For studded snow tires the Hankook Winter IPike X can't be beat but if you don't want studs the New Michelin X-Ice Snow is a awesome tire would be my recomendations.

I drive from from Wilbur to Moses lake everyday,  ran a pair of Bridgestone blizzaks and would highly recommend them. They will keep you on the road. Stay away from studded snow tires, they will take you longer to stop.

Nokians the Blizzack or Hankoos described are all great. The new stud compounds suck because they all get wore down. Not sure i would use them. :twocents:

I've had multiple sets of Michelin X-ice and Bridgestone Blizzaks on many different vehicles.  When the tires are brand new I'd say those two are about equal or maybe even a slight edge goes to the Blizzak but after the first season and as more miles get on them the Michelin X-Ice never seem to lose their grip.  The X-Ice are always my first choice but if they don't make the size I need the Blizzaks are a close second choice.

I had a pair of blizzaks once and they were great tires. I’m trying to scrape up the cash for a set this year.
