I do not have a Hancock key.I heard they do not let you cow hunt in there, but that may be wrong. Also the muzzle loader cow tag is elk area 6054,so not all of  Mashel unit is open. Some of the Eatonville area of Hancock would be in the area.I had 6 points in the draw.

As far as I know they do. I’ve ran into several muzzy cow hunters in there on the south side of the kapowsin Hancock property. I would go in there opening day, and fill your tag. Shouldn’t have an issue filling it!

They definitely do and it should be easy money.

Yeah, they are sold out. Otherwise, a slam dunk. But a few years ago they changed the boundary and it didn’t include Hancock. Reason I remember is because my wife drew and when I found out Hancock was no longer in the unit, we got our points back.  They changed the boundary between the drawing and deadline.

I have a friend that killed a cow in there last year

I thought they offered extra Hancock passes (keys) for purchase to those that draw this permit?...maybe give Hancock a call to see. As far as getting permission up Scott Turner Rd or Ashford, good luck, most either think of the elk as pets or are elk hunters themselves and don't want the numbers to go down, especially pregnant cows. If the UW Pack Forest is included in the unit (I haven't looked at the boundary) then poke around there too, but your best bet is Hancock land.

UW is closed to hunting access during his hunt due to UWs rules and regulations. Maybe get lucky if talking to land owners throughout unit boundaries and explain the hunt situation for the permit.

It appears that Hancock indeed is no longer in the 6054 elk hunt.

What is "Hancock"?

Their White River permit is the only one that doesn't take in any of 6054. Looks to me like both the Kapowsin and Eatonville permits take in a portion of the hunt area.

6054 is only a portion of 654. Doesn't include the whole unit. And 6054 took away a large portion of hancock lands within the last couple years. Not the permit it used to be. Although some public land available this is probably geared more toward private land hunts for late season opportunity.
