G5 Optix XR
« on: May 06, 2009, 02:07:45 PM »
Anyone use the Optix XR or the XR2? I have used floating sights before but the XR looks nice as it takes some of the human error out of it by throwing in some fixed pins? I know many of us have our beef w/ floating sights but if someone who has used this before can chime in I would appreciate it.

Not sure whcih model my buddy has, it's the 3 fixed pins and one movable. He does fine with it, got the floater to go from 50 to 80+ with no problems. Way I see it, if you set it for 50 anything beyond that you'll have a good chance of having time to adjust it.
Shut up and Hunt!

its hard to get it to work on faster bows...and thats goes for all the G5 sights ,we won't stock them any more. there are better sights out.

Whats the issue w/ faster bows? And what others would you suggest. I just liked the idea of having a pin at 70-75 yds and not using the bottom of my sight plate :)

when you set your 20,30,and 40 pin the floating pin can't go up to where your 50 yard pin should be. the other thing is when the sight pin is set at 70 or 80 it is just above the level...not a good sight pic.

Spot Hogg has a new sight the Tommy Hogg

The Tommy Hogg's front control yardage adjustment gives great quiver clearance without sacrificing sight adjustability. Each is compatible in single pin, small guard with 3 or 5 pins a 7 pin available in the large guard.

And the HHA single pin

If you are shooting 70-80 go to movable pin sight cuz at 70 every yard counts and you can set the sight to 72 76
and put that pin on the target.

In the new EBJ there is an article on the G5, I think it is the three pin with a floating 4th. According to the article the tester was very satisfied and reccommended it. I guess it's like anything, comes down to personal preference.

Hey XXX, is that new Tommy Hogg mostly for shoots? Looks like it is a little confusing for out in the woods...but I was just looking at it online and not in hand so I have no idea.

its not bad it has clicks like a target sight and quick big movements to ...so it is a great sight if you are shooting some target and 3-D shoots and a hunting sight ...if all you are doing is hunting I would look at the HHA Optimiser
