If the water is sub-zero, it is already way below turning into ice, therefore if you fall into sub-zero water, might end up with a bruise or two, but not drown. The air temp may be sub-zero, but the water temp below the ice is above 32 degrees. This statement came from the Mayo Clinic? Hopefully someone who is not too sharp paraphrased their study.
As any Minnesotan will tell you, when ice fishing, the correct term is "Frostitution"
