Billy Clapp lake
« on: May 12, 2009, 01:13:37 AM »
I was checking out billy clapp lake out today but didn't fish much cause the wind was howling there. :bash: I have heard there is walleye's, large mouth, small mouth bass and trout. So I was wondering what other kinds of fish are in there and if any of you guys fish it and have some success? Any info about this lake would be great! Thanks

Billy Clapp Lake

From Soap Lake go east on HWY 28 for 10 mi. To J NE turn left go 2.6 mi. to access at end of Rd.

Billy Clapp Lake is formed by Pinto Dam which is part of the Columbia Basin Project. Lands around the 1,010 acre lake are included in a wildlife reserve program. Access is limited. Angling opportunities include yellow perch, crappie, rainbow trout, walleye and grass carp.

I've fished Billy Clap many times in the past although it has been awhile.
A very mixed bag of game fish is available so if the rainbow are not hitting your trolled spinners you can always pull into the small bay about half way up the lake on the East side and load up on the perch or bottom troll the East side of the lake for the walleye.
My most productive walleye fishing was while tied off to the bouy line below the dam at the north end of the lake using a worm & spinner setup.
Good Luck out there.

A lot of walleye throughout the lake, nothing huge, but decent numbers.  The south shore is best for bass fishing.  I have had the best luck fishing the west shore for perch and catfish.  For trout, ignore the lake and go fish the canal just to the north of the lake.

I have never caught a large mouth in there, but they have to be in there. Lots of small mouth.....nothing huge. Decent Walleye fishing, pretty good trout fishing. A lot of the locals go out and target the deeper water for the kokanee and silvers. One guy mentioned fishing the canals for trout......you might want to check on that. I have heard a rumor that fishing in the canals is closed and anyone caught fishing in them gets a $180 fine. I haven't been motivated yet to call and find out about this but I guess I should. I just have never fished much in them.

I have caught quite a few large mouth in there.  Good advice on checking if the canal is open or not.  I have not fished there in close to 8 years.  Billyclap has good numbers of trout, but the canal had trout with some good size to them.
