Cheap GoPro knockoffs?
« on: April 28, 2022, 05:24:12 PM »
I've been seeing several of these for less than $50 or so.  I'm a bit skeptical about the quality but that's about, what, 10% the cost of a Gopro.  Anyone have any experience with a SJCAM, AKASO, WOLFANG, ect.?

 Get what you pay for?

$40 Wolfang.  Not GroPro quality but it works.

I watched a few Youtube reviews of them with side by side comparison. They do appear to work just depends how high of quality video you want to get.  I'm well behind on my gopro.  Think I'm still rocking a 5 or 6.  I've tried a few alternatives just because GoPro file size is so large but if you want good definition you have large file size.  I just continue to go back to the GoPro.  For $50 it might be worth a try depending on what you are looking to do with it.

I think this one is going to work for what I have in mind.  I wanted something with “adequate” video quality but yet is somewhat “expendable” and not big loss if it gets lost or damaged.  I won’t mind putting it in a crab pot, under the boat, attached to the truck running boards, etc.

Ive got 4 or 5 of these knock offs, they are all about the same build quality as eachother, some are spec'd better then the others. the image stabilization isn't as good as on the actual go pro's but they are worth the money for sure for most stuff. I couldn't see strapping expensive cameras on stuff that I knew was going to get thrashed, so these were the gamble I was willing to take.

How's the image stabilization software on the knockoffs?

not nearly as good as the real thing. the knock offs spec out like a current generation go pro, but the stabilization is like 2 generations behind. Go pro has that really figured out well.
