above the dam is great with the high water.. no one wants to fish it so I have not been going, the gorge has a few fish around, but below kelly point or in the willamete is great this time of year.. those fish are moving out of the willy and heading down to the coast.... lots of good fishing to be had... in about a week below willow grove should be good as well...

Hoyt, How much have you been out lately?  Daily weekly or just when you get buisness? What I have gotten form a couple off this site and several friends that the lower C is not good at all yet? i.e Astoria/Chinook.... Heard a few being plucked from Roster rock, no pun intended... Longview is DEAD!  Unless I have gotten bad information, the Willy is still producing good keepers all around, especially high up and in the holes I like to fish....  How bout Shad coming in yet?

Shouldn't you be fishing in Alaska or something?

The lower river should be dead right now for the most part, the majority of those fish wont be there for 3-4 weeks.... above the dam has been good in the right areas.. I can help you with that but thats one hell of a drive.. the willy as I said and as you know is still good, so is just below kelly point, that shoulkd really kick off in another week or so, shad are starting to show, should be fine on sat when it opens

Went out today and it was dead. I was fishing from the bank with my buddy that is a disabled vet, he can't walk very well so we didn't hit anywhere to difficult to get to.but we made it down to the river. We had a great day, even though we didn't get a bite, not one, it has been a long time since that has happened we still had a great day.
We were tossin shrimp, worms, roll mop. Not even a nibble. Still a good day though.

Where abouts, if you don't mind?  What is a roll mop?  Curious for sure.

Roll Mop Herring can be bought in stores. I've never had any luck on it personally.

Roll mop is human food.. its pickeled herring, and if its slow its good to eat!!! I use it alot, I caught my first keeper off the bank ever way back in the day.. 57in... I like tp use it along with SS and squid, you take it out of the jar and cut the strips smaller, then salt them overnight, this will harden them up and make them much easier to work with..... I dont use it by itself, the only time i have was that 57in... but its a great additive to a bait cocktail

Hit it the Willamette yesterday, we caught quite a few of sub-shakers, I mean Micro-Sturgeon to the max, caught a few bigger shakers but not close to legal at all, it was pretty slow action all together.  Good time, great weather so it wasn't too bad of a trip.... Maybe in two weeks it will heat up down south in Astoria.....  It was a good go at the Willamette this season, but it is time to concentrate on the Columbia for the remainder of the year...

I went down to Vancouver two weeks ago (5-3-09)  to go halibut fishing on my brother in laws boat but on the way down he called and said the ocean report was to rough to go out. I had previously left my boat down there so we went out after sturgeon. We went out of Kalama and went downstream on the washington side about two miles. We fished for 3 hours and ran out of bait. Lots of nice shakers that were within an inch. Our first keeper came within 15 minites and the last two smelt produced 2 more keepers that limited us out. I can't wait to get back down there.
