There is a confirmed pack in the Shady pass area. I believe 4 adults.

A big coyote, there are no wolves in that area.

about 15 years ago a guy right outside of spokane called WDFW and told them he had a wolf at his place eating chickens. WDFW said wolves dont exist there. he shot it...it was a wolf  :chuckle:

Thankfully enough I haven’t caught any since last January on my cams in the slide ridge/shady pass area

if I don't draw it soon I am going to have to change my options.  Wolves are or will decimate the deer in that unit in no time.

There is a confirmed pack in the Shady pass area. I believe 4 adults.

During the 2023 deer season, my brother and I watched nine wolves travel nose-to-tail down FS 8410. Based on that alone, I believe there are more than four adult wolves using that area.

I heard a wolf howling in that area in the mid 1990s. In recent years I have seen tracks, had pictures on cams and heard them howling many times. There are definitely plenty of wolves in the area. My dad talked to a biologist 3-4 years ago who was coming out of the river trail and she was studying wolves. After being locked out of the area last year, I will be curious how deer numbers and mature bucks  are holding up. There are areas up the Entiat that I have hunted for 40 years that always held good numbers of summer range deer that in recent years were becoming ghost towns and wolf sign was in those areas. It is crazy how large the feet and bodies are on non native wolves that have been planted in this state. Invasive species.

Plenty of wolves on the winter range and following the migration up this spring, I wouldn’t hold my breath for any type of numbers but should still be a couple quality bucks that slip through.  Makes me sick of what it was.

the unit has been hurting for years and had nothing to do with wolves. Now you add the wolves to the equation. Very unfortunate!
