Opinions/Advice
« on: July 06, 2022, 08:05:32 AM »
Has anyone signed a contract for X amount of money for a guided hunt paid your deposit have your hunt date's set. And then Covid shows up. Your hunt gets canceled and moved to the next year. Fast forward now you get a notice that the Cost of everything is way up so you are asked to pay 30% more for the hunt. What do you do.
If you don't pay the increase will you get the same hunt.
Do you fight to get your deposit back due to breach of contract.
Looking for opinions and or advise.
Thanks in advance.

Personally wouldn't want to go on a hunt with an outfitter who had so little integrity as to do this.  Could see them asking for a little surcharge to offset rising expenses, but a straight 30% increase is just not justified. Would fight to get my deposit back and then look for an outfitter with more integrity.  Have several pre covid contracts where the business's are honoing their pre covid price quotes. I would probably work with them if they respectively asked for a slight increase to offset rising costs, but not if they just said basically "screw you", I'm charging more.

I would take a look at what they are providing.  Fuel is up, food is up, other stuff is up.  Their access fees to land shouldn't change, their labor costs shouldn't be 30% more, processing shouldn't cost more.

I would probably call and tell them I was surprised and ask them to explain the cost increase.  If they can't or you get a generic "everything is more expensive", I would ask for a refund.

I agree, it all depends on what the contract says and how much trouble you want to go through if they don't play nice.
