Cool truck, but I'm not seeing the business model behind this.

This is Ford's response to the Raptor eater, the Ram TRX.

What do you mean "Business model"?

Standard definition;

The term business model refers to a company's plan for making a profit. It identifies the products or services the business plans to sell, its identified target market, and any anticipated expenses.

I understand that.

So you do not think there is a buyer for this vehicle? Cant make a profit?

I doubt if Ford will sell enough of these to recoup the R&D costs.  Seems more about corporate pride than turning a profit.

I could see a few heavy ego, heavy image farmers/business owners buying these as their second pickup. Letting there 17 year old son take his date to prom in it. Perhaps driving it on Sundays to there networking club, eerrrrrr....i mean mega church.

Racing departments for motorcycle companies are never supposed to make money either. Its about maintaining an image...maintaining a "Brand"...see how i tied that to the other thread?  8)

I think Jason hit the nail on the head.  Ford vs Dodge.

But with the country world in recession, gas at $6.00/gal …  $110K, 12mpg, ..  totally ill timed.  They are selling all the XLs and LXTs that they can make.  Make more of them, make them cheaper, make them more efficient, make some profits.

The only trucks on the lots these days are Raptors, but they are already way over priced.

Ford vs Ferrari?

One of my all-time favorite movies.  The Ford GT40 was the car I lusted over for years.  They are a little over what my budget can handle today, sadly.

 :yeah:

I think you're spot on and every single one of them that comes to the dealers, which there will be few, will already be pre sold or won't last long before it's sold.

Like the Mustang GT500,  Bronco Raptor, Raptor and now Raptor R these specialty performance vehicles from Ford are being built in such limited supplies the demand far outweighs the supply so even purchasing one at all, let alone buying one without having to pay excessively over MSRP is not an easy thing to come by.

I bet the R&D wasn't too bad, looks to be truck tunes to an existing engine, same transmission, few other upgrades.  The margins will be pretty huge, no incentives from the factory for sure.  Whether that model is profitable or not I don't think matters too much.  It will grab headlines and get dudes into the dealers to check it out.

I would love to take a spin in it, but doing back of the napkin math I think it costs more than every vehicle I have ever purchased added together unless I start counting boats as well.  Certainly every truck and car.

They probably already are all pre-sold. I know of at least 5 orders we have for them. Who knows if or when we’ll get them.

Unrelated but also sort of related side note. We have 700 reservations at our store for the lightning.  SEVEN HUNDRED!! At 1 store.
We’ve been allocated 3 so far last I heard. Maybe a week ago.

Granted there’s money where I work, but if we take in let’s say 15 f150’s in a day, 5 of them will be raptors. They have a following, and lots of their owners have money and want the next best thing.

The business case is small development cost, huge margin & they’ll sell every single one they make. Look at how fast Jeep sells the wrangler with the huge v8 in it. There are plenty of people for who bigger & faster is better & they don’t care about gas mileage.

I'd trade my new yota in on one in a heartbeat if I could justify the price. As long as a guy isn't afraid to put a few scratches on her, they're the best factory off road rig made for the things I do. The nicer used market was still too tough of a pill for me to swallow.

When I got my F150 back in Oct 2020 from Pierre Ford they had a whole corral of Raptors.  I asked him the same question.  He said that most of theirs end up going to buyers in the Gulf States.  No not those, the other "Gulf".  Like Saudi, Qatar, and Dubai.
Also in the MidWest and South a pickup truck is much more of a status symbol and they rarely get used like one.   The cost of living is so much less why not dump 100k into a depreciating asset.

This will crack you up..

Do you remember when the "1990 ZR1 Corvette" was introduced? It was originally a extremely limited sale model (5000?).

My Spoiled idiot cousin, 38 at the time, was one of the few who won the lottery for an "option to buy", almost a year before they would become available. He never planned to buy one, he did not have the $70k. His plan was to sell his "option" for mega bucks. It looked like it could payoff. Some "options to buy", were selling for $50k. At one point it was estimated that 50% of the available "options to buy" had already been sold for profit. He was holding out for the big bucks. He even got the WA State ZR1 personal plate.
Then just a couple months before the first ZR1 was delivered, Chevy announce they were going to mass produce   :chuckle:
The "option to buy" was only worth the order you would receive you ZR1 now.
His Mom, my rich Aunt, bailed him out. She bought The ZR1, had it delivered, and placed it in the garage. I had forgotten about the whole deal. Then two years later at a Family Reunion at her house on the water in Olympia. She asked if I would go into the six car garage, and bring the cooler full of refreshments. I walk in, and there is the 1990 ZR1 Corvette with the ZR1 Washington plate. My cousin was not allowed to drive it until he paid off the $70k He owed his mom. He stopped buy once a week to wash it,  :chuckle:

I never found out what happened to that ZR1. And I missed my chance ask, he was at a reunion on hood Canal on Saturday, now in his 70s.   :o

You haven't seen the Raptor R.  It's a 700hp V8 Raptor. I'm not sure what Silverado will compete with it.

Though it's on a much lower cost scale, the above statement pretty well defines rifles and all the different cartridges we seek.  If it weren't for this mentality, we'd all only have one of two different rifles.  ;)

I’ve seen em, overrated.  Make sure u test drive a new Chev Silverado, pick a package. You’ll like them more.

You haven't seen the Raptor R.  It's a 700hp V8 Raptor. I'm not sure what Silverado will compete with it.

GMC has their new AT4X which isn't much different than the AT4 but even the new GMC AT4X isn't even in the same league as the regular Ford Raptor let alone the new Raptor R.

Unless GM has something in the works and I hope they do because competition in the market place, IMO, always drives for a better product, GM doesn't have anything even close to the Raptor R.

There are plenty of people for who bigger & faster is better & they don’t care about gas mileage.

Though it's on a much lower cost scale, the above statement pretty well defines rifles and all the different cartridges we seek.  If it weren't for this mentality, we'd all only have one of two different rifles.  ;)

True story. I’m guilty of it with shotguns. I have 6 I think & I'm trying to save up for a Franchi over/under 16 gauge, if my stupid house would stop assaulting my bank account.
