WTB: Duck retrieval toy for training made of actual duck
« on: November 03, 2022, 02:52:39 PM »
Sorry mods if this isnt in the right spot, feel free to move it to classifieds. I want to buy a duck toy for training my savannah cat to retrieve ducks for me, so basically a toy made for dogs made with actual duck in it. I can already get my cat to retrieve toys for me (peacock feather, spring toy, etc) and am getting him used to water. I need a real duck toy to train him for this. Thanks in advance and feel free to send me a dm.

Why not just stuff some duck feathers in a sock? Start small and gradually increase size and weight of the dummy. (sock) I would love to see the other hunters seeing a cat make retrieves! They get a kick out of seeing a full size Poodle retrieve ducks. Good luck on your venture.

Because he would tear apart the sock in 2 seconds. Savannahs are more like dogs, you mostly have to buy them dog toys instead of cats toys in general.

Okay, that sounds like a problem. How about buy one of the canvas training bumper, take out the filling and stuff duck stuff in it and buy the liquid duck scent and saturate the outside once in a while. Or else buy a dog.  :chuckle:

I used bumpers and zip tied a duck wing to it. Saved a few wings in the freezer and switched them as they wore out.

This is a solid idea, got any wings for sell?

A caution for you. Be sure to have a vest or other plainly visible item on your retriever. Can't imagine anybody out there that is used to seeing a large cat chasing ducks.

What part of the state are you in? I’ll save you some wings just for the chance to see a cat that can retrieve ducks!
There is not enough wilderness left in the world, or in the hearts of men.
