Sabots for Speer Deep Curls
« on: September 27, 2022, 06:20:03 AM »
I have a couple boxes of Speer Deep Curls I would like to try out of my Knight Bighorn. For those of you that use them I am wondering what sabots you use. I have a few to select from and can probably figure it out by running some bullets in sabots down my barrel. I would like to try these for elk this year and hope to get a load figured out this week. If it doesnt work out I will stick with what I have been using.
Thanks,
HntnFsh

I have had nothing but great luck using harvester black crush ribs with 300 grain deep curls out of two different cva optimas.

I really like the MMP HPH-24 for this project.  They remain pliable even in really cold temps.  But I must admit the Harvester is less expensive.

I'll second this. Great combo in the bighorn.

I am looking at my MMP sabots I have 3 bags of them. 1 bag has the packaging labelinside and they are HPH 24s. The other 2 bags arent labeled. I have a hunch they are HPH 12s I tried running both down the barrel with a 452 speer deep curl. The Unlabeled ones seem to load a bit harder, but not bad.

I was thinking their was a way to look at the bases to tell the difference, but dont rmember how. Wondering what the trick is?

I only have a half dozen in the labeled bag of HPH 24s. But I'm also thinking that the ones I suspect as being HPH 12s may be just fine also.
Thanks,
HntnFsh

Got some time to shoot these today. I used the HPH 12s. They were very easy to get dialed in. Loading the first shot was tight, but not bad. Loading the second shot took some work but was doable. I ordered some HPH 24s. I think they will be the ticket. I am impressed with how accurate these ae with 110 grains of T7 FFG.
