Packboard Bruins - (BlackRiver Taxidermy)
« on: October 30, 2022, 07:17:33 PM »
Two cousins scored on a couple of color phase bears. They came to me with the desire for packboard mounts but also wanted a unique look to them. So...both these bears were done with a 'relaxed-jaw' open-mouth form with a traditional stick in the jaws and mounted up to two true Trapper Nelson packs with a bedroll underneath. Heads were mounted in a 'side profile' pose vs the traditional head straight on look like a majority of the ones I do.
These mounts are really becoming popular and a great way to display your bear, especially if the bear is on the smaller side of life and or has damage such as rubbed spots or lots of knife nicks or poor skinning cuts that occurred during in-field skinning.
Thank you to the owner for the work and congrats to you both on some beautiful Washington State bruins!

Finding the pack is the hard part.

I sold one on here and should have kept it.🤬

But than again my kids really don’t want taxidermy so it’s saving me money.🤣

They’re a much cheaper route than a rug for sure. These two mounts were a little more than a standard ‘closed mouth’ bear on a packboard due to the open mouth form.
I have tons of Trapper Nelson packs in here secondary to some good friends that hit garage and estate sales and find them.
Here’s a pic of some recent ones that are standard closed mouth packboard bears
