Deer unit 272 late archery
« on: December 03, 2022, 06:31:29 AM »
I I have been to rd p, rd 12, rd 16, walked mile after mile still not seen a single deer out here in the Columbia basin since Thanksgiving this is very disappointing. I seen 2 separate tracks after our snow fall of 6 inches but that has been it. Ugh

That specific area gets destroyed in rifle season and has a lot of bird hunters. It's a big unit. I would drive around until you find feeding deer. They stick out like a sore thumb right now.

They are often on private but move into the sagebrush to bed. This can often be public.

Definitely deer. Been on a few 160-170 bucks every day in the unit. But it’s big. Stay after it!

There are deer in that unit....you just need to find them on public ground.  They also herd up when the snow hits the ground which really congregates them in certain areas (at least the areas I hunt).  Lot of private ground for them to seek refuge from the few hunters looking to arrow them.  On a good day....this is a difficult archery unit, especially after these deer have been harassed for the last 3 months by all other hunter groups.
