Microfiber Lens Wipes for Glass
« on: December 06, 2022, 12:00:12 PM »
Hello,

I wanted to for opinions here, what do you all use to clean binocular lenses with, and I suppose rifle scopes, also? Normally, I just use a clean cotton t-shirt for my binocs, but my wife bought these Walgreens Microfiber Lens Wipe's that we use on our eyeglasses, and they work great. I was thinking about trying them on my binoculars but I'm a little concerned about the stuff inside ruining my glass. They contain isopropyl alcohol, water and "fragrance". Any advice on this? Thank you

I like Zeiss cleaning wipes. They are individually packaged and weigh next to nothing. Haven't had any issues.

My advice would be to NOT squirt any type of lens-cleaning solution directly on binocular lenses.  I did that once, and the inside of the lenses fogged up immediately.  I had to send them to Leupold to have them cleaned, which they did at no charge.

Swirl dealer told me only use 100% cotton balls to clean your lenses. Any type of tissue is made from wood products not good on your high and glass

The Zeiss cleaning wipes also come in non-fogging that has worked well for me. The Zeiss booth at the Shot Show has the wipes and recommend them for Zeiss optics.  I've been using them for years without issues non coated glasses and optics will scratch over time.

I'm sure the Zeiss wipes are fine but the Leica manual for one specifically states to not use alcohol based cleaning solutions on them, so I stick to a plain microfiber wipe. I usually put a fresh one of those spuds type wipes on my bino harness once or twice a year. Some hot breath and a quick wipe is all they need

Zeiss wipes here too. I use a lens pen to get the big debris off first so I’m not rubbing anything into the glass.
