well i started making turkey noises while im at work. e scouting areas to go around Spokane this year. Joined the NWTF. boy howdi im getting excited to hear some spring thunder. I dont think my coworkers understand how baddly i want to see a strutting tom this year.

anywhere in the north east i should check out? I under stand NWTF should get in touch with me about private land opportunity's around there.

also thinking about using my bow. any recommendations about arrow set up and shot placement?

You shouldn't have any trouble finding birds in the NE, willing birds, that want to come to a call, may be a different story depending on time of year.  If it were me, I would be scouting now looking for where the large flocks are currently, then find a couple creek/river drainages within a couple miles of there and a couple high spots to listen from.  Then I would be listening at those high spots as season approaches to try and find the locations with birds.

I can't help you on the bow stuff, I am a shotgun hunter.

Good luck!  I am beyond excited, as I am every year, as soon as my deer season is over and I start wishing I was chasing gobbles.

Being that weather conditions wont allow you to get off the pavement in most areas, and as hard a time as the deer and turkey are having, Id wait to see what survives the next 6-8 weeks before scouting over here.  The last 4 consecutive short winters do not represent what this winter is doing to animals.  Depending on where in the n.e, impact will range from normal to severe.

Yeah I won’t be able to get out and scout in till closer to season due to it being snowboard season. But that makes a lot of sense to look for big flocks then look in nearby drainages. New to turkey hunting last year we struck up a bird just hiking near a creek bottom. It’s something else when you hammer on a box call and befor your finished yelping your partners hear a gobble.
I think the most frustrating thing is my wife says the bird is over there and I think the bird is over here.

Have you been in touch with the NWTF chapter in Spokane?  Not sure about who you are talking about the NWTF getting a hold of you?  Also call the local bio's or nusance specialists for the state.  They have list of property owners that would allow hunting.

Plenty of turkeys in the Mt.Spokane area. Most of the public land in that area is owned by Inland Empire Paper. You will need to have an access permit to be on those lands. I believe they are $65 for a year and you can buy them from White's Boots right by the fair grounds here in Spokane. If your going to hunt turkey with a bow, I recommend using a blind. Set your decoys out about 10 yards from the blind. I like to use a hen and jake combo set I own from Primos. I make it look like the Jake is about to mount the hen. It really pisses off those old toms. I included a shot reference chart for you at different angles so you are aware of where you need to aim with your archery equipment. I have shot a few turkeys with my compound and many more with a 12 guage. There are a ton of turkey around. You should be in the action anywhere here in Eastern, Washington. Turkey season is a blast, best of luck!

I'll be excited to see the 250 pests leave when  the season starts. Sick of them... WDFW won't trap and relocate...Won't help feed them in the winter.. I only have 3 ac. and close neighbors but I'm about ready to start flock shooting them.

Drive by several times a year.  Turkeys are a road hazard on 25.  Took one in the windshield after they were scattered by truck in front of me.

Seems I cant go outside without steppin in turkey slop.  They arent afraid of the dog, cat, wife, nothin.  Ugly dirty disgusting critter.

THey start getting goofy in about a month.  About V Day.    I mean a couple soft purrs now will get one to hump your leg, so maybe I should say goofier than normal

They are already goofy...strutting and gobbling and fighting......gobblers are like teenage boys...ready to hump anything at anytime   all year long.

Them turkeys are everywhere.
They do better than deer trying to make it through winter.
1)they eat anything including dirt.
2)most times they walk atop the snow.
3)they can reach a lot higher brush and trees for food.

Just like all animals extreme cold effects them most.
You see them standing around like flamingos ,you know it's cold.

With all that said....
You shouldn't have any problems finding turkeys in the NE.
Besides the spring ticks ,nice spring temps,possible snow covered/then mud roads.
It's a pretty exciting time to be in the woods.
