Quilomene/Clockum Elk sheds
« on: January 20, 2023, 11:31:20 AM »
Looking for someone that would like to link up and hike this area this spring. I will be starting scouting the next week or so and will expect equal work out of someone. Side-by-side and quad available on my end to use to get deep in there. Lmk.

Are you local or traveling there? The increase in popularity there is unreal and took the fun out of it for me. Used to be able to scout it but come March those elk will be on the move with all the activity up there.

isn’t that the truth. I still get after it for the exercise and hope to get lucky. But like you said those bulls are pushed so hard before they drop. No point in the popular areas to do any scouting.

Not to drag the OP at all but why do you need to “go scout” this early? Elk are a ways out from dropping? I see guys pushing elk already and laugh because particularly in that unit, I can see all the elk these guy get out and chase, from The opposite side of the river and I can tell you that not a single bull has dropped. Is there maybe a spike or 2 that has? Maybe. But I look at over 100 3+ bulls this weekend and all had both sides. Stay home and leave the elk alone. It’s insane to see guys out earlier and earlier every year pushing elk in hopes of watching antlers drop in front of them

Spikes dont drop before the big bulls......rather much later.......scouting from afar is understandable but if people are chasing elk around hoping to get antlers that way they dont know much about shed hunting.....but if someone is new to an area this is the time to scout but scouting does you little good if you cant observe and not spook.

Utah just came out prohibiting shed hunting until April 1st because how tough it is on the critters. Let them be till later on.

Won't be long before these state bans shed hunting on public land due to all the pressure.
Then shed hunting permits. Not fun anymore

I guess but Utah is state wide.  All public land.
