Skull cap for shoulder mount?

So my elk skull cap is cut for a shoulder mount. I would like to cut it more to make it easier to mount on the wall for the moment. But it will be used for a shoulder mount at a later date. Will cutting it interfere with being able to have it on a shoulder mount later?
Trying to include pics but struggling at the moment.
