Apps for charts and fishing
« on: April 28, 2023, 08:34:13 AM »
I am in the process of making a decision on buying a depth sounder. The ones with charts built in are a lot more expensive. Was wondering if anyone has an app they like that might take the place of needing that on the depth sounder. One that shows charts for puget sound and lakes? And, is this practical? Thanks

I have Marine Ways and the free version of Argo but I mostly just use Google maps.

Navionics is a good one I'm happy with.

Navionics is the best I have used.  It depends on the level of detail you need.

Navionics is good.

Just make sure you have a good power source and charging capabilities on your boat for your phone if its absolutely necessary to get you back.  I have an app that I use specifically to track my drift when fishing the sound (drifting over structure for lingcod, the app has very detailed bathymetry that i dont want to load on my sounder) and its a phone battery killer.  Have gone back to the dock a few times with a dead phone.  Luckily I dont need it to navigate since I have charts on my sounder.

What app is that?  It would be great for shrimping.

It's a map you buy and then run in a separate app, or you can buy it for your sounder. It's called strike lines. It's kinda spendy now, it was about half the cost when I bought it a few years ago.

Here's a screenshot from Jeff head and port Madison.

If you are interested in seeing a specific area before you buy it, pm me and I'll screenshot for you to make sure it's what you want before you buy it.

Yeah, a bit spendy but might be worth it.  Your mailbox is full.
