Looking into getting a wall tent.....anywhere local?
« on: June 01, 2009, 01:05:28 PM »

Back when i was little my dad always took us to his elk camp near elk heights.
They had a HUGE wall tent that i just really loved camping out of when we went to elk camp.
my brother and i got talking this weekend about maybe looking into getting one.
does anyone know where i can go LOCALLY to look at one?
i have done some research and havnt found anyone locally that does them.
we are not looking for a huge huge one but i thought i would ask you you guys for some advice.
thanks

There was a tent thread on here if you did a search. Probably Cabelas, one guy got a nice one out of Oregon. For the price you would pay and sales tax it might be worth the drive.

:yeah:  I've got the Alaknak and wished I had known about the Big Horn tent you have.  The Alaknak's center post is a pain in the arse.

BWB- Check in the back of the hunting regs in the products directory, there are usually some companies that advertise in there that make heavy canvas wall tents.  I think there's a company in Milton Freewater, Oregon that makes them?

The Alaknak worked very well for the two hunting seasons I used it before buying a trailer.  I have all the extras for it like the floor liner, vestibule and roof panel protector for the stove jack and it all stood up to snowy and windy conditions very nicely.  The first stove I had (can't remember if it was Cabela's sheepherder Packer or Alaskan model; I ended up trading it for other camping gear) was too small and wouldn't last through the night so next year I got their Hunter model cylinder stove which worked great.  I took pictures of the tent interior, I'll look for them and try to post.

We did it up more deluxe in 2004 in addition to the better wood stove we added hardwood flooring and a coffee maker  :chuckle:  :IBCOOL:

Salem Tents in Salem, OR.  Internal frame tent is easy to set up and there are only two minor issues.  One, condensation forms on the poles inside.  Two, it needs a bigger section around the stove pipe opening as our tent has quite a few burn holes.  Luckily we hunt the east side so we don't need to worry about rain ;)

Other than that, it's a great tent and would recommend to anybody.
