Generally speaking Poor trophy quality, poor access, hoof rot. Lots of elk though at times and beautiful country without much pressure.

Mudflow isn't what it used to be.   Still has a decent amount of Bulls but cows are scarce after the rut splits them all up.  I believe without the weyco permit the land between the highway and the flats is off limits since its weyco land.

Depends on your definition of quality.  As far as shooting a high scoring bull, I would say no.  I will say the hunt I had on the mudlfow with my son was quality though.  We saw lots of bulls and got hunt in some country that has pretty cool historical significance.  I like high scoring critters as much as the next guy but I'd like to do this hunt again even knowing I'm not going to shoot a bull that is going to score well.

Ridgerunner's comments are spot on.
It's definitely a Quality Hunt, it's just not a hunt to put in for if you're looking for high scoring bulls.
Very little pressure and plenty of animals.

The Mudflow is a portion of the Loowit GMU, which is closed to ALL hunting, with the Mudflow elk permits being the only exception.

For this three year package that is being commented on now, the WDFW could reduce or eliminate the Loowit unit since the Forest Service got rid of most of their stay on the trail regulations. Could open up to more public opportunity on public land.

That would be a bummer ! And I’d say mudflow is one of the coolest places I have hunted if you take the time to actually explore it it’s very cool

Yes, Pumice plains is smack dab in the middle of the Loowit.  Upper Smith Creek and Mount Whittier are also part of the Loowit.

I drew Pumice Plains a few years ago.  Well more than a few.  Anyways, it took about 30 minutes to fill a cow tag.  Get to the loowit or as close to that border and there will be elk around.  There is some hoof rot in there as well.
