Lund Boats

Any experience with them?  Reviews?  Looking at a new Fury 1400. It’s been a handful of years since I had a boat, getting the itch again

Some lake fishing (KOK and some trout trolling, some bass fishing, a bit of tiger Muskie casting, and some 100’  salmon trolling in the sound). Unlike my last boat, I’m going a bit lighter/smaller to favor smaller water fishing with a bit of late AUG and on sound king fishing as required  .  I’m really interested if folks liked their Lund boats.

I had a mid-1980s Lund 14' deep transom v-hull boat with a 25 hp Evinrude 2 stroke. It was well used but well cared for when I got it. Probably a 20 year old boat at the time I bought it used.

I re-seated a few leaky rivets and gave it a camouflage paint job. Gave me a solid decade of use on mostly saltwater crabbing and duck hunting. I loved it and would have no reservations about buying another.

Not sure if this helps you out, but that's my limited  experience with and endorsement of Lund boats.

My last boat was a new Smokercraft Phantom 16, decked out. Great boat, loved that boat, was a PS salmon slayer. Sold it to finish the restoration of my old red 68 Chevelle.  Now, as I get closer to final final retirement, it’s time to get a good dual purpose boat.

I’ve got an 18’ ssv. Tons of the guide services in Alaska use them so figured couldn’t go wrong. Fwiw it’s the longest I’ve owned any boat. All my other boats never seem to make it more than a year or two before they get put for sale, but the Lund is here to stay.

It's been a while, but it was a great boat for me at the time.  I had  a 2006 Lund Adventure 1700 with a 115 4S Merc on it.  I bought it from a friend a few years old. Great build quality for the price point, and after I fished the heck out of it for 5 years I sold it for more than I paid for it.

There will always be the the brand loyalists that love their brand and crap on the others (ie, Ford vs Chevy), but I think you can't go wrong with Lund, Crestliner, or any other riveted boat for a utility unit. If you wanted to step up into a welded hull, that's an entirely different class of boat and price point.

I don't see very many Lunds at all up here, but that doesn't mean they're not good up here - it just means that they don't have good dealers up here.

I just sold a 2007 Lund 16' WC DLX with a 25hp merc efi.  982 hours on the meter, I bought it new and stored it in my shop but fished the heck out of it when my kids were growing up.

Only issue I had with it in 15 years was leaking rivets, and that started about year 11. 

I am a boat adjuster for a mega insurance company.  I literally look at boats all day for a living the past 25 years.  As Skillet said Lunds are at the right price point and for a riveted boat they are well made.

 All Riveted boats will leak, and all fiberglass boats will rot.

Lund seems to be the Boston whaler of riveted boats. Pretty well made and they hold their value pretty well.

I’ve had a few smoker craft Alaskans over the years, they’re great boats as well in that category. I get sticker shock every time I see them for sale now. I bought my old 13’ Alaskan for $800 with no motor, they seem to go for $5k plus all day now.

We had a 2003 SSV 16' for years. Great little boat and fishy as all get out, we put a pile of kings in that thing over the years. Never had a single leaky rivet. Sold it a couple years back to upgrade to something a little bigger and more kid friendly and regret it constantly. Did everything in that boat from Chelan kokanee to sturgeon below Wanapum, and lots and lots of Willapa chinook.

I have a 2003 ProSport 1700 with a Yamaha 75 that I bought new. In 20 years I think I've had to replace the master power switch on the dash and tighten a few screws in the interior. Zero complaints from me.

Lund or Smokercraft, I would buy the one that was the better deal.  If you are looking at doing salt water, creeping up to 16' will get you a steering wheel and canvas if you are lucky.  I would buy one of those used over a 14' new.  Even for just lakes, it gets hot (and cold/rainy) out there and shade is nice.

  My thoughts exactly! Have an OLD 14' Starcraft that I have owned for over 25 years and love to death, but definitely think that 16ft would be the ticket!

Lunds are known as one of the best freshwater boats there are. They have the greatest reputation of all boats for freshwater due to build quality and hull design. I have fished on my buddy's Lund many times last year and it is nice, but it is also a 2022 so it better not have problems haha. There is a cult of people who will only buy Lunds, but for good reasons too not only the name. You won't find that with bargain boat brands.

The only thing I would look out for is how beat up the hull is. Rivets will leak the more stumps the operators have hit...

I have a 16' Lund with a 25 hp on it and use the heck out of it.  Been a great boat and very reliable.  I had a 14', but upgraded to the 16' for stability and a better fishing platform.  I also added a Minn Kota trolling motor to the bow with a foot control.  Considering spending the money to upgrade that to use spot lock and remote as my son now uses it for bass fishing.

I just got back from fishing in northern Minnesota where at least 75% of the boats were Lunds. When I asked my friends why that was they were in complete agreement they are the best boats on the water(they are also made there). Four out of four in our group were Lund boats. Don’t know all brands but Lunds will serve you well. My small fishing boat is a very nice Crestliner which is doing a great job for me here too.

I have a 1981 16’ Lund WC and it is one of the most versatile boats a guy could own.  Mine has a 50 hp Honda on it and is a multi purpose boat.

You cannot go wrong with this style of boat in Washington.  Columbia Springers and steelhead, Ilwaco, Neah Bay, Area 8-2, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13.  Banks and Roosevelt and a few dozen lakes along the way. 

It has two modes:  saltwater and bass.  Bass mode adds a front deck with seat and a bow mounted   Minn Kota riptide.  This mode is also for Searun cutthroat.

It has also been a great SCUBA and freediving boat for me as well as shrimping and crabbing.  I have a nice Arima 19’ Sea Ranger with a teak hard top and I use the skiff two to three times more often.

Hope you can find one and get a fair price.  You won’t be disappointed.  Mine is 42 years old and still has zero leaks.  Must have been built on a Thursday.
