Muzzleloader recommendations for WA

I've been archery hunting elk in WA the last 17 yrs and have been out of the muzzleloader game for a while.  Due to sports schedules I'm going to elk hunt with a muzzleloader this yr.  Any recommendations on a good WA legal muzzleloader?  Thanks.

My buddy picked up a CVA Paramount last year. He really likes it, the barrels are great. I liked the feel of it in my hands but never fired.

I like my Knight Bighorn very much.
It has a good balance.
Reasonably priced.
Very accurate with maxi or sabot; I shoot the Hornady 300gr XTP 44 cal bullet over 100gr 777.
Very good sights for our dark woods.
Almost all of the components are stainless, which is great for our 24/7 drizzling days.
Never failed to fire using musket caps.

Knight ultralight is my go too love it , but  I def have shot a few real nice cva

I picked up a CVA Optima V2  few years ago.  Great gun.   Did the 209 conversion on and have had good results with it.   With the newer style non-sabot bullets it will shoot 200 yards easily if your eyes are good enough.  Really good gun for the price and since I am assuming archery will be back in your future it's not alot out of pocket to get shooting

I have a CVA Optima V2 with the nitride barrel I have been considering selling if you’re interested. Has the BH 209 breech plug, and I have powder, primers, and bullets that would/could go with it. It’s only been shot 5 times.

I have a CVA optima V2 and a knight disc extreme, thumbhole stock.

Had a straight stock disc extreme in the past and a knight mk-85 in .54 and they all are good shooters.
If I had to pick one only I would do the disc extreme.


Knight is still having a clearance on the .52 cal models, $360 brand new

They don't make the .45 or .50 anymore


CVA optima I've never had a problem with either, it's a tack driver to, but the knight is more comfortable to me

I have a CVA Accura in 26” barrel .50 cal, overall it’s ok but the are some quality issues I’m not happy with and the options for aftermarket sights are non-existent to my knowledge.

T/C Black Diamond XR Stainless and my go to is my T/C Encore 209x50 stainless with 28" barrel and Williams peep.

Williams western hunter peep sight/front globe.   Combine that with the EBCO rear peep and picatinny rail.   

I just bought the fiber optic insert and will likely pair it with a fine cross hair insert.   Lots of options. 

There are other sights out there too if you google it.  There is a company that uses a bolt on front sight that pairs with the car sights rear peeps.

I've been very happy with my knight bighorn.  Its not made anymore, but people generally seem to really love their knight rifles of all types.  What I can say, is that it goes bang every time and is pretty accurate for a muzzy.  This is greatly improved with a rear peep sight.

 Whatever you do don't buy a Traditions! Seriously, don't buy one. Anything else is probably gonna be fine.
