Washtucna
« on: June 19, 2023, 02:16:16 PM »
I am looking for someone who would be able to help point us in the right direction for the youth Washtucna any deer tag.  My 8-year-old son drew and is hoping to get his first buck this year.   Any advice is appreciated, I want to try and set him up for success as best as possible for his first hunt and we plan on making a trip over there towards the end of July to get a feel for the area.

Reach out to the hunt by written permission locations.  They are incredibly supportive for youth doe tags.  You may have to take a drive out there and get contact info off the fence line tags but we’ll worth the trip.

You might have better luck when asking for permission if you say you will shoot a doe or one of the big 2 points that roam that unit.  Someone will have a big 2 running around.

If you have onX there is quite a bit of state ground that holds deer.

The state / public land on opening weekend is an absolute zoo during rifle season.  Back in 99-00 it was an awesome place to hunt.  Tried it three years ago and went home.  Couldn’t believe the number of people.   I’m not sure how more people don’t get shot in that area with the shiiiizt that goes on.  Really quite sad.  I watched two groups of hunters shoot 7-10 times before the buck was hit and killed.  The buck was right in between the two groups.  That were 300-400 yards apart.   :yike: :yike: :yike:

If he's willing to shoot a doe it's a very doable hunt. If he only wants to shoot a buck, then you'll have to hunt hard even for sub 3pts. There's quite a bit of oddball public parcels in 284 with walk in access which would be a good place to start looking.
