Centain many folks couldn't tell the difference between ocean humpies and other salmon if they are cooked well and prepared a myriad of ways other than baked. Usually the river guys give em a bad name.

And those keeping boot kings claim kings are the best. Lol

It's hard for me to argue putting 4 people on my boat, bagging 8 pinks in a couple hours burning next to no gas, eating a few and then turning the rest into lox.  I'll be eating them on bagels at elk camp and I can't remember anyone turning one down.

I'm as snobby as the next guy when it comes to fish, when the coho show up I'll switch, but we can put 50 pinks in the freezer before that happens.

Like any salmon, the backs and guts turn into crab, virtually unlimited free bait.

They are easy to catch, fight pretty hard pound for pound and you can sight fish them on light tackle and don't need all the expensive rigmarole you need for their more sought-after cousins.  Take a few kids with you, it's great.

H2O has posted a clinic on how to catch them and pics of the proof of some seriously good looking smoke treats for the year.  Pinks from the salt are great.

And as many have mentioned, a blast with kids in the boat.  I'll take salt water pinks over store bought kings/silvers all day long.  Not all fish/game needs to be gourmet.  It's also about the sport and memories.

I use to be a Pink snob, and think Pinks were only good for smoking when still bright.
Then after move here in OK, 95% of the salmon sold in stores here is
“Farm Raised, Color Added, Atlantic Salmon.”
It has got to be the most flavorless salmon ever. I will smoke it up or make Squaw Candy with it, but it has no flavor of the grill.
A bright pink caught in the salt, has way more flavor than a generic farm raised Atlantic Salmon.
Luckily we have found a decent fish store where we can get flash frozen Alaskan Chinook, Silvers, and Sockeye. And Costco has decent Salmon often.

There you go CP!

I saw quite a few fish finning out in the middle on my way back to the dock this morning, I'm guessing they were probably pinks.

Several schools off the Skagit buoy this morning.  A friend of mine limited at Lincoln Park yesterday, so the rain has moved them in.

why keep that slime anyways?

Not slimy in the salt. I love same day saltwater pinks on the bbq.
exactly, we have caught them and within 15 minutes of being bonked they were on the grill and were great!

I don’t fish as much as I used to, but we used to put a ton of low river pinks in the smoker and make chowder once a week. I’m excited to get out a few times when they hit the river.
What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.
