Colville tribe wolf kill
« on: October 08, 2023, 11:24:25 AM »
Heard a tribal member killed one on the res that weighed 209 lbs. Kids saw a pic of it and said it was indeed a huge animal. But I think that would be a record.  Also heard the tribe had a bounty on it as it had been raiding livestock.

Odds are someone on here will know for sure.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Good. At least someone is doing something about this destructive problem. We know the state is absolutely worthless to look at for proactive management.

My dad had a picture of one from Alaska(pipeline time) that they killed up around King Salmon. 197. It was a huge wolf! Killed him while fishing greyling. They do get big, depending on diet ;)

My dad and grandpa used to say they “would get big and turn colors” the more fat they ate. Seals, moose etc. the more fat, the darker the coat. It also had an indication of weight. No seals around colville but I bet there’s some moose. ;)

From what I see and hear, the moose numbers around Colville are significantly less than they were just a few short years ago unfortunately! Follow on packs will have to grow big on beef, because we can still grow that population. So frustrating!

I do hope we get to see this wolf at 200 pounds that is more than a bit to imagine. I am glad it is gone if its only 80 pounds.

Wolf was taken on the west side of lake roosevelt. Really not close to Colville.   I'll stop by the Tavern and see if I can get the pic.  My kids who saw the pic said it was huge and black
