What kind of Bird is this

This bird has been hanging out near my house for days. The pic is not the best as you cannot see the side of its neck, which has bright orange markings on each side. This bird looks like black velvet with the bright orange. Thanks for any help. Mark

Can't see a pic.  Is it a little tiny bugger, mainly black with orange, hangs out near hardwood leaves?  I'm guessing a male American redstart - try googling an image and see if that is him.

It's a Red-winged Blackbird, as the range of the Tricolored doesn't really extend up into our state.  Here's a pic of one to help confirm it's identity.  This is what it looks like, right?

Very Cool birds... the other day my daughters and I were laughing our butts off watching 3 of them absolutly torment a redtailed hawk that took perch in a cottonwood near these guys nesting area... he finally flew away and these little suckers dive bombed him for another 500 yards at least in flight...

There is also one outside my office near a sidewalk that dive bombs people when they walk by... VERY territorial during breeding/nesting season...

They have a beautiful call too....

Immature males have them but not as fully colored as a mature male.  You might have been watching a mature male.  Plus they will flare them a bit when showing off.  THem and the Yellowheads tend to nest near water, especially marsh.  Brewers which are much more "boring" in regards to color, but fun to watch antic wise, tend to be more suburban, in the arborvidae "type" bird.  They also love to attack passerbys.  The red winged probably has the nicest sound.  Yellowheads are borderline obnoxious.

They are cool birds. We used to have some that would eat out of our hands at work about 20 years ago. They have a very distint call esp around breeding time.

We had them hanging around a pond at our old house.  They would weave nests between cattails out of the cattail fronds.  It was very cool to watch them build them.
