Epic day in the gorge!!!!
« on: June 09, 2009, 07:34:13 PM »
Today was hands down the best fishing I have ever seen in my life! we had great weather, and some insane action!!!! we started off whacking some shad for bait then headed down river. The currrent and river levels at the dam are insane right now, so with that in mind I decided to seek out some lesser current, for a few reasons, 1 being I hate heavy current, I dont like using huge weights and you always have to check to see if your bait is on the bottom, second the fish dont like it anymore then I do most of the time. I found a sweet little seam on the egde of a back eddy and decided to give her a shot, man am I glad I did!!! I did not have the 2nd rod in the water when the first one started to fold, my client forgot to thumb the reel on the hook set and she was gone! 0-1, shortly after the right rod just burried and line began to scream!! fish on.. 35 min later casey had a nice 8.5 to the boat! we ended up going 6- 12 with 6 coming unpinned, 2 from jumps and 4 from just being sturg...... but we went 6-6 after the first miss! the bite was the longest we waited was about 15 min, a few of the hook ups were mere minutes after tying back off after battling another big sturg!!!! im not one to brag, but our 2 rods out fished over 20 other guide rods out there today, at one point, we drifted down 3 times with fish in short succesion and 4 well known guide boats full of clients sat on anchor!!! the biggest fish of the day was a MONSTER at 10.5+ ft and well over 500lbs.. all in all it was a day that most of us only dream of!! including me! I am happy I got to share it with some great fishermen!!!!   as with all the fish I hook, these were handled with the utmost care and released  with them slapping the boat with their tail..... amazing fish, amazing day!!
