Coyote Calling Sequences
« on: January 18, 2024, 06:32:39 PM »
Been trying to learn more about coyote calling sequences. What do y'all like to start with, roll through and end with?

I've learned a bit from other sources, wondering if local techniques are any different.

I’m just going to do MFK breeding sounds now. With my Howlers bump and grind. Breeding sounds.

Depends on where I am, and what time of year it is.  Right now I use both hand calls, and my Foxpro, and do like Rick says, sound like two coyotes meeting each other for propagation purposes.  I try to tell a story.

Female invitation from the Foxpro, wait a minute, then a male challenge from my howler, then a pissed off male challenge back from the Foxpro and so on.  Then a "really" mad male, and maybe the female answers back.  Then I shoot one (hopefully), then I run the pup in distress and shoot another one...or I pack up and move...I move about 10 times for each shot opportunity.  My wife calls it "armed hiking" instead of hunting.
Work to live, don't live to work.

I use my foxpro pretty much exclusively. No mouth calls yet.

I like to start with rabbit distress or similar to start out at almost every stand.  Next i'll go with either more distress, or move to coyote vocals.

I've had some success recently with Tony Tebbe's Full stand sequences.  Full stand 1 (mostly coyote vocals), and Full stand 2 (mostly rabbit distress).

I've been advised by one of my buddies that I should do a better job at "telling a story" with my sequences.  I'm working on that.

Check out the fox pro podcast, specifically the episodes with Tory Cook of MFK. Very interesting, he doesn’t necessarily believe in “telling a story”, just covers every “trigger” in his stand. Food, Fight and Fornication.
