LiFePO4 battery terminal question and bad fishing report
« on: February 15, 2024, 05:16:19 PM »
I bought this battery to run a fish finder and a trolling motor.  It’s been working great but does anyone have a good suggestion for replacing these terminal screws with something easier to work with?

Fishing report: hit Lake Roesiger about 10 days ago.  I stayed in the southern portion trolling for trout with a hotshot while searching for schools of perch.  I couldn’t find any of either.  Makes me feel dumb that I can’t find some perch.  Tips welcome for that also!

I use 2 pin connectors for all my external battery hookups.

Put a straight stud in it... sticking out about an inch...

Then use a wing nuts for connection's...

As for perch ... I got nothing.

Go to a local hardware store and bring that screw with you. They should have an area where you can figure out another fastener with the same diameter and thread pitch. Buy something more user friendly that fits.

Stainless wing (aka butterfly) bolt.  It's probably an M8, or maybe an M6 if the battery is 50AH or less.

Can't help with the perch but if you figure it out, let us know.

Thanks for the replies!  Looks like a wing bolt is the way to go and use washers if I can't find one short enough.

Yeah, you can just cut them to length.  Or go a little longer and run 2 nuts on them, set the lower nut where you want it, then tighten the two nuts together to lock them in place.  Maybe use a little Loctite to keep them from moving.

If you are doing a lot of connecting/disconnecting, a plastic knob type might be better, and they wouldn’t short out as easily.  Paint one red for the + side.

Or you could just attach a plug like this...

Here’s what I went with.  Carried the battery into the local Mcdaniel’s and they had it.  It’s 10-32 if anyone has a similar battery.
