Good genetics in that area.  World record rosie bull from N. Cal. and this BT from S. OR.  Growing them big in that country.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

OK, so I have seen a lot of BT trophies, but there is NOTHING like that in the Puget Sound region.  A different animal for sure.

Unbelievably beautiful!

Huge buck!  South Oregon north cali blacktail should be in a different catagory, they may be in the same family, but are no way like a Washington blacktail.  What did this buck score?

Exactly! Ive been saying that for decades. Those are not the same deer as a peninsula buck or North western WA. Almost like trying to lump a sitka buck with a WA peninsula buck and saying they are the same

I am not sure we are quite there yet  :dunno:......

This buck scored 172 and change. PNW heckles in the trophy BT thread scored 14 points less after deductions. Gross scores very well may have been closer, start talking water displacement and things might get real interesting. In addition, it sounds like Heckles buck may not have been killed on his best year.

I agree there are distinct physical differences, but the same can be said for a mule deer from Sonora and one from Saskatchewan. A buck from eastern Montana can look significantly different than a buck from the Sawtooth range. But they are both mule deer.

I am not a scientist so can't tell you when genetic diversity and habitat adaptation start to blur into subspecies creation. But I am glad we have the diversity of habitat and genetic differences, it keeps it fun.

Only problem is it takes about 10 of them altogether! :chuckle:

That buck might score 10 points higher but the buck in this thread has more WOW factor in my opinion.  This is just an amazing looking specimen in my opinion...
