Good entry level progressive reloader?
« on: April 10, 2024, 02:12:28 PM »
I'm looking to get into reloading for a Marlin 444 that I bought since ammo is limited.  What would be a good press/reloaded to aquire?  TIA.

Can't go wrong with a RCBS Rock Crusher. Unless you're reloading thousands of rounds a year, it'll do everything you need. I hear they've discontinued that model but I'm sure you can find a used model for a decent price. I've been using mine since the 90s and never had to replace or fix anything. Absolutely love the 444! Kick myself in the ass for ever selling my Marlin. Good luck

I would not go with a progressive for the sole purpose of reloading the 444 marlin.  A single stage press with appropriate set up will net you more rounds than you want or will shoot through that rifle.  A progressive is designed to kick out large quantities of ammo.

Single stage RCBS Rock Chucker (pick your model) will be sufficient.  You can really not go wrong with any of the manufacturers these days.....I just like RCBS for presses.

Turret presses are the next step up and are not that much more expensive.  I don't own a turret press, but If I were getting into another single stage, I would look hard at the turret options.

As for progressive.....a great entry level (big step up in price) would be the dillon 550c.  I have two of these presses and love them.  I only reload pistol, 300blk and .223 on them.  all my hunting rifle rounds are loaded on a single stage.
