This is the first bird of my own. I have been chasing these critters for a long, long time. So long in fact, most people thought I was lying when I told them I was going "turkey" hunting. As I approached the downed bird, I dropped to my knees and broke down and praised the Lord. This experience I will never forget.

Congratulations to everyone who has harvested a bird, and good luck to all still trying to fill their other tags the next month. I was out the other day with my father. Had 4 toms come into 100 yards, but wouldn't commit off of the private and across the fence to my set-up on state land.

Bird #2 of the season, same weekend, same property, but a mile apart and very different tactics. Had 2 separate coyotes bust opportunities earlier in the day on other toms right out of the roost. Many bachelor groups roaming in the late morning as the sun came out each day (9 jakes in one, 9 toms in another). Had a lot of fun talking with groups near the spreads throughout the day and sealed the deal on this tom in high brush at about 20 yd (no decoys out, just hen clucks)

Congrats all it's been a tough season for sure.
No luck on my son's second bird, just a gobble is a trophy sometimes.
Good luck to all still looking.

Got my tom last weekend and it happened to be a quad beard! Anyone else run into something like this? How uncommon is this?
