Photo was taken 2/05 on the Mudflow.  There are 13 5x5 or better bulls in the photo.  The elk winter there, so in Feb. its not hard to see lots of elk there.  We saw 30-40 bulls that day.  That doesn't mean they hang out like that in Sept.

There are quality bulls in there, but, as soon as the first shot is fired, the Loowit is right there, as is the Margaret and the Toutle, and the elk head for timber.  That unit is so small you can almost spit across it.

Not worth the effort if you ask me.   :chuckle: :chuckle:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

In 2/05 the area wasn't closed. That rule was implemented after '05.  At least that's how I recall it.

Thanks guys...boy is pretty pumped, just got back from the observatory and seen about a dozen bulls. Not much for elk yet but they are coming. Handicap bud drew the tag last year and this year...big bulls but gotta shop around.

Has anybody on here actually hunted the unit? Any pics of bulls taken? Just curious.  :dunno:

Have never "hunted" it, as it is part of the Loowit, and has been pretty much closed since the mountain blew.  We used to hunt horns there back when it was legal.  There are a LOT of raghorns, and a few real hogs if you know were to look.  We walked in last year to fish Castle Lake and saw one bull that was a real dandy.
Work to live, don't live to work.

You can educate away ignorance, sober up drunkenness, but you can't fix stupid.
