Alkali cow tags
« on: June 13, 2024, 09:45:54 AM »
My grandaughter got drawn for a youth cow tag for alkali. It will be in Dec and Jan. I got the alkali cow tag in Oct. Been quite a while since I've hunted on the base. I'm assuming you still have to go take an orientation and register guns. Also if i remember we had to check in and out every day and pick a unit number. But who knows after the covid bs maybe everything is different. Anyway really looking forward to her getting a shot at her first elk. I'm thinking her chances later in the year are better then mine will be in Oct.

You are correct. It’s all still the same. It should be a good hunt, but I’d say your hunt could be better. She’s getting a whack at them after they’ve been chased from October- December. Either way will be fun. My daughter didn’t draw with 5 points

Here is a screenshot of what is needed to get on the training center. You should get a rec card and have your firearms registered in advance. There is one entry and exit gate. You can enter the base two hours before sunrise and must be off two hours after sunset. You can select up to three training areas to visit each day. Open training centers can change daily. What you scout one day may be closed the next. Assigned training areas can be changed via a phone call. To get current training area closure information you can call 509-577-3600. Plan on 45 to 60 minutes each morning to get checked in, and possibly longer the first few days of a season. Make sure you understand and follow all rules.

Thanks. I'll have to do some research on what areas to look at first. I was thinking manastash ridge or over by Hanford side. I think it borders the firing range but not sure. I have time to figure things out.
