Pend Oreille County - #2 B&C Moose producing County in US
« on: June 16, 2009, 08:17:23 PM »
Just read an article about Shiras' Moose in Fair Chase. They broke down each State by County and how many B&C Moose each has produced. Over the last 10 years, Pend Oreille County ranks #2 (21 entries) behind Teton County Wyoming (32 entries) for total B&C qualifying Moose. That is pretty impressive! Other Washington Counties with entries are Stevens County with 10 and Spokane County with 3.

Well that monster I was after last year is still out there, he will make the book and could be #1 in the state this year.

+1 ridgerunner and alot of the moose are protected in this county, lots of private almost all of it, all broken up, really hard to get permission to hunt that way.I know of a bull that went 191 off of calispell creek, little asian man shot it, couldnt speak english, never entered it, never heard of it again

I still think Selkirk has the greatest trophy potential.  There is a lot of that unit that just doesn't get hunted.  Of course the big canadians that step across the border help too.

It is so thick in there, if you were a smart moose you could live your whole life in some of that stuff and no one would ever get a good look at you in the daylight...

I know a hard core shed hunter that found a bulls sets 3 years in a row now...in Idaho... but near the border.... that goes 200 inches with a 50 inch spread.... BIG!

Calispell Creek has a toad or two! have some bad, fuzzy video of a monster in there from 15 years ago....

Cool to hear about all the bigguns...gets me that much more excited for a hunt I'll likely never draw!  Sure would love to see some pics of those monsters.

I heard that a while back, Thats not going to help our odds when the out of state  guys start applying, next year.   8)

Starting 14 points behind...realistically they'll never catch up.  If they start drawing tags, we can always add a NR cap like every other state.  I'll gladly take their $$ at $60 per year.  If anything, I could see it affecting the raffle and governor's tag.

Hi Everyone ... I'm new to the forum. I have to say, I'm quite impressed at the level of interaction here. It's great!

That's some rough country ... especially the Salmo-Priest area. You would have to be pretty serious about moose to hunt that country, but if I were after a record-book Shiras, that's the place I would go.
