Stolen camera rant
« on: August 25, 2024, 04:06:34 PM »
I get it that people think this spot,or that spot is theres.
I don't really understand it though.

So one of my cams was taken, plus the salt block.
Which I really don't understand why someone would take the salt block. I guess the SD card and camera wasn't enough I suppose.
I was there recently to remove the camera before season opens.

Not sure which way I should go from this point.
Or just leave it be and move on,I already know what's in the area.
Not sure how someone can show up in
the fall , destroy my stuff, claim a spot as there own.
Reason I say claim a spot ,cause they must not of liked me there to take the salt block. I was standing on snow when I put the cam up this spring.

Camera+salt 40.00$
Few camera checks,100.00 fuel.
Pissed to the wind I suppose.
I've thought about placing a few dummy cams with another cam in a lock box to catch a picture of them.

What you guys think?
Leave it be.
Or risk another cam trying to catch em stealing.
Sorry guys just a rant, this public land stuff happens all the time.
Just venting I guess.

This boils my blood to no end. I use custom boxes for our cams and have had numerous stolen over the years. Usually a mile plus from any road, at the minimum. Guys have packed in sawzalls and cut my cams off the tree. Nothing infuriates me more, knowing that it’s a 90+% chance it’s another ‘hunter’ of some sort. I wish them all the worst seasons with lots of interactions with wardens!!

Sorry you have to deal with this. It just flat sucks!

All I was trying to get was a daytime pic of this guy..
Now some other guy probably has my day pic of him.
I wasn't really planning on hunting that spot, due to other spots.
But my plans might change, I'll probably make it a point to hunt this spot now.

I would hunt that spot. Might find out who the culprit is and kill a nice buck.

Use a bait camera and have one well hidden, get footage of the theft.

I'd hunt that spot as many times as possible just out of spite

Put a bait cam low and obvious then put your second up high and looking down on the spot. No one is ever looking up for cams. If you catch them blast them on social media as much as possible. I hope you catch them next time! Sorry you had to deal with this. My buddies and I have had lock boxes pried open and the cams stolen out of them.
Fish hard, hunt harder!

Been pretty fortunate with my cameras so far. Had a few people pose in front of them and another dozen or so walk past.

I did have one python locked and someone broke the plastic latch to check the SD card. Fortunately that camera was garbage (stealthcam refurb) and took about 500 photos of does in 5 days before dying. And they put the SD card back. I checked it mid-hunt and left it on the ridge to retrieve this summer when I found the broken latch. In hindsight should've taken the SD card the first time.

I'd put another one up, maybe a broken dummy cam off ebay or something, with a real working one elsewhere to catch them. If there's an obvious parking spot or route in/out, one there too to catch the vehicle. Turn any info into the authorities. If someone is s****y enough to do this they may be known to the authorities already.

I would go to that spot and set up camp near by. Hunt the heck out of it. The worst thing  a guy can do is tell me they have a stand up and stay away. I don’t like being pushed around on public land.

Old ,cranky, and determined with all the time in the world. I am know as a nice guy but they also say don’t piss him off.

I would never knowingly screw with someone’s hunt and I hunt out of blinds some. Don’t bother me I won’t bother anyone else. But public is public.

Cannot stand thieves. Hope I never catch one. I am certain it would put my medication to the test.

I was just having this conversation with my son yesterday. We hiked in a little farther than usual looking for bear, and ran across a great spot, which had 2 trail cams set up about 50 yards from each other. Gave the cams a wave on the way by, and talked with him about hunter ethics. “We don’t want someone messing with our cameras, treestand, ect., so we respect other people’s stuff too.”
Also discussed public land being public, so there’s no guarantee, but in general there should be room for all to hunt and share the woods respectfully.
It is too bad though that not everyone shares decent values, and there are jerks who hunt, just like there’s gonna be jerks everywhere else occasionally too🤔
When I inevitably choke to death on gummy bears, I’d simply like it said that I was “killed by bears”, and leave it at that

Has anyone attempted to imbed an air tag somewhere inside the camera? I assume at least some of the stolen ones get taken home. Thieves suck

Outlaw cameras and thermal stuff in the woods.
It's ridiculous.
The end.

Air tags alert apple owners they are nearby and transmit a tone...
