Synthetic Velvet?
« on: September 11, 2024, 02:39:51 PM »
I shot a caribou that was in full velvet this year but I just want to do a euro mount. I've already stripped the velvet and whitened the skull. I was looking at applying the velvet myself with the Scenes-N-Nature kit which looks really easy to do but I'd be into it for around $150. I don't really want to just stain the antlers either. I would like for it to be the same way as when I shot it.

I would probably never use that kit again so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone does it locally. If they charge around the same price as the kit I'd just have them do it. If not, I'll do it myself. Thanks

Even the taxidermist who think they are the best at doing it I can still tell immediately that it’s fake.

That's not the point. I can also tell that it's fake. I would like to have the skull the way it was when I shot him. Plus, I don't have any euros that are in full velvet and I think it would look cool with the velvet and the bright white skull.  Whitebone creations did a caribou on his YouTube and I think it looked awesome.

I had a buck done at my taxidermist.  He sent it off for the velvet application.  Yeah, it’s clearly fake…..but man does it look good.

I would call local taxidermist and ask.  That said….i would only call reputable taxidermist.   My guy is good….but he still sent it off to get the velvet applied.

if the question is will it cost more than the 150 for the kit to have a taxidermist do it, id say you better get started on it

So you can tell it’s fake ??   :dunno: Odd
