Gun Tripods

I'm looking to get a gun tripod to use in a ground blind. Looking around the BOD Death Grip looks OK, any others around that are the same idea? No hurry it's for next season.

The bog death grips and field pods are what we use. We have several models. They are heavier and bulky but great for ground blinds etc.

I pack a tripod trigger stick that I mounted a death grip on when in the field hunting. Much lighter but still very stable.

I own two Bogs and am looking to buy a third.  The original death grip is amazing, especially if weight is not an issue.  I have the Carbon Fiber death grip and it is solid as a rock.  My son used it to kill his elk this year at 520 yards....and he 10 ringed it.  We have used it in our ground blinds for turkey and deer season for the last 6-7 years and again.....AMAZING.  Only negatives....Weight, only operates on two plains and no arca rail. 

Two years ago, I bought the Sherpa with the death grip attachment.  It is significantly lighter and has a ball head for three planes of adjustment.  It will not work for standing shots and is not as stable as the death grip when fully extended.  It really excels for seated positions and packing.  It has the arca rail that the death grip attaches to....giving you options.   

The next one I will buy....likely this year....Death Grip Carbon fibre Infinite.  Best of both worlds with a ball head adapter, arca rail, death grip, standing height, etc.  Only negative will be the weight.

I pulled the deathgrip off my bog and did a conversion to a ball head and it is way lighter and solid as a rock

I have a standard BOG deathgrip tripod($170) and a Kopfjager K700 with the Reaper grip($400).  I use them mostly for hunting coyotes at night.

They are both good tripods.  I like the Kopfjager better. But is it worth double the price?  For me I think yes, but for others....maybe not.

I like the Kopfjager better because:
-The clamps for the legs are easier to operate and feel more rigid.
-The legs have slightly less metal "twang" sound
-All 3 legs have foam wrap on the upper part (BOG has foam wrap on a single leg) It makes a difference when hunting in cold conditions and your off-hand is resting on the tripod
-There is an additional height extension piece on the top of the tripod. (I'm 6'5" and the extra height helps)
-The Reaper grip moves smother when torqued down (panning up/down or side to side)
-The Reaper grip has a swivel on one side of the clamp allowing it to conform to tapered stocks, while the BOG uses two locked parallel clamps.  Bog works fine for straight, un-tapered handguards, but the Reaper is more versatile.

Other notes:
-When I do multiple stands in a night, I get tired of screwing the clamps in and out over and over. I'd like to try an ARCA rail mount with a quick release clamp.
-I bought some dry graphite powder lubricant and spent about  15 minutes working it into the clamping surfaces on my Kopfjager. It helped a lot.  I still need to do the same to the BOG.

-I was skeptical of shooting tripods for many years, and just used bipods on my rifles.  When I finally tried a friend's tripod, I quickly realized: this is amazing!  Now I'm not sure how I went so long without one.
