That's fine. I'll be able to hold dead on out to about 700 yards..  :chuckle:

In reality, they are probably going about that fast. The ones we loaded with 98 grains were just pushing 3300.

Jeremiah,

Your chrony is whacked out.  I am shooting 100.2 grains of Retumbo and I am getting 3460fps.  A damn good group might I add.

See this thread about the 300 Rum sharing of data.

I FREAKIN' TOLD YOU GUYS... CHRONOGRAPHS CANNOT BE TRUSTED!

Now... just shoot the drop... and then go plug the numbers into a ballistics program... it'll get you close. I'd rather know the actuall drops out to 800... than know the exact velocity and trust a program (or a cooked-up BDC turret) to give me my drop data!

When you guys get it all figured out... we'll go out and do some long range bombing... maybe we could set-up a hunt-wa long range shoot... see who's who and what's what on steel in the hills out to 1k or so.

Hell... I'd miss by a mile if I could get rid of that thing!

Seriously though... I learn a lot when I go LR shooting with different guys. Everyone has a little different method of reading wind and angles and such... always a good time.

Did your chrono come with light difusers?

I finally got to shoot my .300 RUM over the weekend, and I hadn't used my chrono in a long time, so I re-read the directions.  If the sun is directly overhead then you will likely need to use the difusers.

So, I set it up as usual (without difusers) I fired 4 shots with one test load 3150 - 3179 - 3663 - 3060.  I thought it was kind of weird, but didn't think much of it.  I let the barrel cool down, and shot the next show with the next test load.  error - error - Shut it off and started again to reset - error - error.  So, I went back and read the directions again and saw the difuser comment, and decided - its noon - what the hell.  So, i put the difusers on and fired another shot 3190, 3205 - 3210

Moral of the story - use the light difusers at mid- day or very sunny conditions.

Your chrono might not be crap - it is worth one more try with light difusers.

Sounds like your crony is was off a bit. When ever I'm checking a load over the crony I always have another rifle along, one that I know the velocity of so if I have any doubts about crony readings I can check with a known rifle/load. A hunt WA shoot would be fun. I know some good places to shoot but I'm out of steel, The brush pickers have taken for scarp metal. I do have 12 milk jugs I saved to shoot.

We need to plan a shoot for fun, spin some turrets and get some minds right. This Sat. I'll be up Capital Forest working up loads for the new .257 WBY at 100 yards, I'm kind of itching to shoot this one. If anybody wants to shoot over my crony, I'll have it set up               ( if you shoot it you buy it). I'll probably head up the Skok. the weekend after the 4'th to shoot some long range.

With all the roads and motorcycle trails its hard to find a place the safely get any distance, I've looked alot while yote hunting.
I do most of my load development in a spot just south od Sumit lake, just up the road a few miles theres a spot you can get 400 yards but thats about as far as I've found up there. I go up the Skokomish, up into the hills to shoot long range. I get in some shooting and scout for deer and bear at the same time.

Milk jugs are cool... I've got about 50 of them saved up in the garage... and a 20"x20" piece of steel too. We should do it toward the middle of July... kind of a final prep for yogi season.

ICE-

Jeremiah and I started out trying to shoot those rounds, but they will not shoot out of our Senderos. At 300 yards, we were shooting about 12" groups. It was bad, and we were getting pissed off. The Accubonds are shooting great out of it though. Can't wait to really stretch it out.

Antlershed,

Did you read through that link?  One big thing that I picked up on that cut my group size in half was bullet runout.  This caliber is very picky when it comes to runout.
