M1 garand info needed
« on: April 28, 2025, 03:11:39 PM »
Was out this weekend and I stumbled across a decent looking M1 garand for 1800$

I’ve been wanting something like a Springfield M1A, a Garand, mini 30 etc something in that style and the garand really caught my eye, but what’s a good price for one of those? I’ve only came across a few of those in my time and wouldn’t mind having one… but honestly don’t know much about them, beyond what you can read about in WW2 and Korean War books etc.

If I got one all I’d be missing is a steel pot helmet and a 1911, and I’d be styling in my jeep for sure!

Older video so value info may be way off, but seems to have some good starting out info about them in general:

Try going to ODCMP.COM they sell different grades of Garands. You can compare theirs to the one you are looking at and hopefully come up with a value based the the condition of the one you are interested in.

Unfortunatly that is what they are bringing in todays inflated economy.
I have a 1942 springfield i bought 45 years ago for $350.
At the gun shows you see them out on tables for $2,000 plus.

If you do buy one keep the ammo under 50,000psi.

PRVI actually makes Garand ammo, if you can find it on the shelf.

$1800 is a bit much.  CMP has them for around 850 or so, but you have to jump through some hoops.  OR join the CMP forum and watch for one for sale.  I see them there for around $1300.

You can buy one on the CMP website for $800 if you just want one to shoot, $1200 for one in good condition and $1600 for one ready to compete with.  Here's the link:  https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-Garand/

If you get bit by the bug (M1903 is an awesome bolt action, M1 1922 M2 variant) there's a few rabbit holes you can go down, join the Garand Collector's Club!  It's not expensive and will help you out a bunch.  Here's the link:  https://thegca.org/

Hope this helps.  BTW, I agree about there being a lot of hoops to jump through to buy from the CMP, but once it's done, it's done and you can buy M1 Garands, 1911 pistols, ammo, air rifles and they have surplus sales of other firearms once in a while.

Pricing is a rough endeavor when it comes to Garands. There is a lot to consider. What make it is, what years, and originality all can have a huge difference on pricing.
