busted up bull - fix or not

Say you shoot a big bull that has a couple busted off points. if you are going to mount it would you leave the points busted off or have them fixed?
Say with the busted points he scores about 330. if the fixed him he would be a 350+ bull.

Leave it alone and don't fix it. Broken tines and scars add character. If you're going to mount it why not put him on the wall the way you found him. I get guys in all the time wanting to "add inches" to there chipped and broken antlers. I try to discourage it if possible. Even if you repair them it can't be officially scored anyway.

is that what matters most to you is what he scores? or the Bull you harvested as he was in your memories? I look at it as character not any other way.

I leave as I shot him. If he broke them in the fall then I'd debate it.

Personally I would not fix tines if it was mine , but if it had a broken main beam like say behind the sword I would think about it. I just did a fix on a 350 arizona bull , made a mold of the good side and transfered it to the other. Turned out pretty dang nice. We left the broken tines though.

Best to leave it alone, if that is the way you shot it that is the way it should go on the wall

Leave it the way he was when harvested, unless as Bone stated it got busted up in the fall. Mark

Impressive repair job. I'm with most of you, chunks and broke off points add character. Leaves me thinking about the battles and skirmishes it MUST have been in to receive such character.

buck,
that was a nice repair job. Is that the same one you showed me a few weeks back when I was @ yer place. It was amazing how well that turned out. The pics don't do it any justice, a guy needs to see that in person to really see the detail you put into it. Again some great work. Not bad for a guy that don't know what he's doing.

I had an Arizona Bull fixed. He was missing a G2 and most of a G3 on one side. I didn't outwardly do it to improve the score, I just like the typical frame and wanted it the way it was before he got his ass kicked. Maybe somehow in my mind I wanted it to be bigger since I had higher expectations going down there and shot this guy on the last day. Looking back I laugh because this bull is a great animal. Would I do it again, I'm not sure. I also mounted it bugling because I already had one in a semi sneak position and wanted something different. Should you only mount an elk bugling if it's shot in the rut? I also understand the idea of leaving them the way they were. Hunting the later hunts in a state like Arizona is tough because a majority of the bulls are broken up. Here's a before and after of him.

Let them show their "character", its just better like that. Anything else is false.
