One more day for 7:

Marine Area 7 (San Juan Islands) open for an additional day of Chinook salmon fishing
Action: Allows one additional day of hatchery Chinook retention.

Effective date: Aug. 1, 2025, only.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Locations and salmon rules:

Marine Area 7 (San Juan Islands), except Bellingham Bay:

Daily limit two including no more than one hatchery Chinook, plus two additional pink salmon may be retained. Chinook minimum size 22 inches. All other salmon species, no minimum size. Release sockeye, chum, wild Chinook, and wild coho.
Reason for action: Through July 27, catch estimates for the Marine Area 7 summer Chinook fishery indicate that 73% of the harvest quota (1,582 of 2,181), 33% of unmarked encounters (1,123 of 3,368), and 80% of sublegal encounters (1,573 of 1,967) have been reached.  Catch estimates for the summer Chinook fishery in this area, combined with daily catch rates, indicate that sufficient quota remains to allow for this opening.

Additional information: All areas listed as closed to salmon fishing year-round in the Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet remain closed.

Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website prior to fishing. See the WDFW Salmon Fishing Current blog: summer and fall 2025 edition for additional Puget Sound salmon fishery information.

Information contact: Fish Program, 360 902-2700.

Fishers must have a current Washington fishing license, appropriate to the fishery. Check the Washington Sport Fishing Rules for details on definitions and regulations. Fishing rules are subject to change. Visit wdfw.wa.gov to find a list of mobile, web, print, or customer service phone options for the latest rule information.

Request this information in an alternative format or language at wdfw.wa.gov/accessibility/requests-accommodation, 833-885-1012, TTY (711), or CivilRightsTeam@dfw.wa.gov.

How did this last opener go for those who made it out? I meant to fish Elliott Bay on Friday but ended up not making it out. Just curious if I missed out on a hot bite.

Slow! We managed one in area 7, didnt see another fish caught and the wind was concentrating the boats. Fish checker said ours was the third fish of the day at 1 pm when we came through.

Can't see that the quota was caught yet somehow I'd be surprised to see another day.

My buddy has been fishing 12 a lot this week 4 Monday 2 Tuesday, 2 Wednesday, 3 Friday, 3 today. Lost 12 over those days. My boy and I was with him on Wednesday and today. Headed home now. Wind died down and we had a decent evening. It was a strong morning bite but we weren't there. One boat we talked to land 3 and lost 3 between 9 and 11am

EB was dead for us on Friday, ended up fishing the Oil Docks & JH in the afternoon and on Saturday.

Pretty slow in 11 for kings, pinks are showing up though. Caught two big pinks sat and I killed an 18 lb king, took fishing all day to catch her.

I didn't buy a PSA derby ticket either  :bdid: as I was fishing in another derby a contractor friend puts on and would have won it!  :bash:
