Rats in RV roof
« on: August 01, 2025, 11:35:52 AM »
Hey all, For the past year i have had rats getting in the front cowling of the RV and accessing the roof...not causing damage to the wiring yet but the smell is getting awful.
Just wanted to see if anyone has had the same experience. I know i could seal it off but i don't want to trap it in there and, die that would be a worse smell.
Thanks in advance

If you can get Peppermint Oil in there away from the entrance it might force him out. And a live trap near the entrance. Because you have to be sure you get them all.

Trap till you don’t get anymore than seal.

Trouble is the smell in insulation never goes away.

Bulk P oil on Amazon.

Thanks GH, oil ordered and camera and spring traps will be set tonight, I might also try to smoke them out and let the kids play whack a mole

Just finished a 6-month restoration on a 14' aluminum Valco.  Got one that thinks it's his private toilet bowl.  Not sure if it's a squirrel or a rat.

Peppermint oil applied, let’s hope they stay away, leaving for a trip tomorrow morning. The smoke bomb was a no go due to the heat it puts off. Fingers crossed

Not an rv, but my old house was a 1940/1950s beach shack and we'd get em up there all the time, you can try a tiny drill bit with a stop just to punch thru the interior layer of roofing and inject all sorts of smelly stuff up there, cinnamon, peppermint, cayenne, they make some stuff, tomcat I think that's basically that in a sprayer jug, just gotta find where they're at, maybe shoot foam in there, I got hat smell in my crawl space at the house, trying to figure out how to really combat it, no more c
