Radar doesn’t make you invisible out there. It also takes your eyes off what’s truly in front of you. Speed is probably the biggest factor in this I would guess. a place like sekiu where there are tons of boats right outside can make for a busy radar screen. I’m guessing everyone is just assuming the boat that hit the other didn’t have radar. It can all happen so fast when you’re in that fog.

I wouldn't expect everyone to have radar, but I would expect everyone to operate in the fog more slowly.

its quite troubling in the fog... watching my radar as a "boat without" runs at speed directly at me... pretty dangerous to not have it and then double down with running... these people are "going fishing 20 miles that way" no way they are idling or going slow to get there... so you are in direct danger from others poor decisions... kind of like having headlights out and driving home in the dark..... i have mine on but.....
I'm not a boat owner, curious how much a radar system cost's??

Around $2k and up.  A lot depends on things like do you already have a multifunction display that will accept radar module, or do you need a new display?  How big/sophisticated to you want your display.

Plus a place to mount it which many boats don't have.

True.  A radar arch ain't cheap...same price range as the radar.  Some can do a relatively simple pole mount.

I was fortunate to have a hard roof and added a Seaview mount.  Even that was a few hunert going on 20 years ago.

Reminds me of a collision in the fog early AM about 10 years ago right in front of Edmonds. Resulted in 3 with serious injuries. Big boat blew right over the 14 footer.
Boats shall slow in fog to safely navigate high vessel traffic areas.

Picture is of another September collision immediately in front of Edmonds about 5 years ago, due to alcohol and high speed at sunset on Labor Day.
